Project Details
Triple-quadrupol mass spectrometer (LC-MS)
Subject Area
Basic Research in Biology and Medicine
Term
Funded in 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 451316294
This application is for a replacement instrument for a much-used triple-quadrupole mass-spectrometer in an LC-MS (liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry) combination. Only the mass spectrometer is being applied for, since the chromatography compound is not yet in need of replacement. At the Institute of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, LC-MS is being intensively conducted in a variety of perspectives, including structure elucidation, assay development, and quantification. The instrument is required foremost for quantification purposes in a number of research projects. The current instrument has made particularly significant contributions to the international reputation of the Helm group in the context of sensitive detection and quantification of modified RNA nucleosides, and, in order to uphold this reputation, a modern successor instrument is necessary. In addition to research in the field of RNA modifications, where cooperations are being implemented, among others, with colleagues in the own institute, the instrument will also be applied for drug research, for example for the detection and quantification of enzyme cofactors.
