Influence of load gradients on the fatigue behavior of hydraulic components

Subject Area Engineering Design, Machine Elements, Product Development
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 449676223

The aim of the project is to generate an understanding of the effects that lead to a time-dependent fatigue behaviour under cyclically variable loads in hydraulic components. The focus is on investigating the mechanisms and processes that influence crack propagation. Insights will be developed that lead to a damage theory for these components. To achieve this, the necessary prerequisites for modelling and simulations of crack propagation in hydraulic components will be created in the requested research project. The simulation of fluid-structure interaction developed in the previous work will be improved, requiring a detailed structural simulation and flow simulation. A new flow model will be developed that can take the macroscopic crack geometry and surface roughness of the crack into account. Further flow experiments will be conducted, and the parameters relevant to the flow will be explored.
