Wave-wave and wave-mean flow interactions are of key importance for energy transfers in the atmosphere and ocean, and are the focus of this subproject. This subproject will provide a novel understanding of the spectral energy budget, and wave-wave and wave-mean flow interactions in the atmosphere and in the ocean. By using a variety of complementary methods and diagnostics, we will quantify the importance of different wave-wave and wave-mean flow interactions for energy transfers that will guide the work on parameterisations in this CRC, together with interpretation of observations and model results.
