Project Details
Internal Wave Energy Dissipation and Wavenumber Spectra: Adaptive Sampling in the Ocean Interior ((13) W05)
Subject Area
Oceanography
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 274762653
In this project we focus on the spatial distribution of the internal wave field and the energy dissipation in the ocean interior below the mixed layer. In the third phase, we will study the effect of mesoscale flow on the background internal wave field and energy dissipation, and the energy input into the interior wave field by severe storms using autonomous vehicles. To do so, we will develop techniques to fuse multi-source information with human input to best (cost/energy/time-efficiency) plan trajectories for autonomous underwater vehicles to sample critical processes and develop and test algorithms to adapt these trajectories based on real-time measurements autonomously.
