Solid-state NMR offers the possibility to probe membrane proteins regardless of their size directly within the membrane context. We use this approach for linking structure and dynamic data with information from biochemical experiments. In involves for example real-time detection of reactions catalyzed within or at the membrane. Biochemically stabilized intermediates of these enzymes can be characterized by multidimensional NMR experiments. Processes within the membrane can be controlled by light-dependent tools such as cages or switches. Protein families of interest are secondary transporter, ABC transporter, kinases and photoreceptors. In order to continue and to expand these studies, an outdated NMR console within the excising 600 MHz NMR spectrometer needs to be replaced, which is the aim of this proposal.
