High-performance computer
Term
Funded in 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 446539107
About 15 institutes and areas from the different faculties of natural sciences, mathematics, engineering sciences regularly need large amounts of computing power for both theoretical and practice-oriented research. The existing high-performance computer (100 TFlops, 44 TB RAM) is technically at the limit of commercial operation after 5-6 years. The manufacturer is no longer active, so the lack of support and spare parts also becomes a problem. The spectrum of researchers' needs is very broad. The focus of the tasks is on very large and long-running jobs. The working memory of the cluster must therefore be larger (60-70 TB RAM). The computing power provided should also be at least 350TFlops. Appropriate technology must be set up to interrupt large long-distance skiers in favor of competing job queues with many small jobs.
