Connecting Scales: Towards an Archaeological Demography of Transformations (F06*)

Subject Area Prehistory and World Archaeology
Classical, Roman, Christian and Islamic Archaeology
Term from 2020 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 290391021

Project Description

the Project aims to reconstruct population numbers and densities over time, to evaluate their effect on, and interdependencies within, prehistoric and archaic transformation processes. During phase 1, the importance of demographic values within the case studies and the role of demographic processes became obvious. In consequence, a deeper analysis of population figures is necessary in phase 2. The so far gathered data and the analyses thereof can contribute local and regional case studies to the issue of demography. The project will use these relevant data, correlate it with archaeological and environmental data and contribute to knowledge on transformations that took place in the past.
