Functionalization of hierarchical materials via active organic films (B10*)

Subject Area Thermodynamics and Kinetics as well as Properties of Phases and Microstructure of Materials
Term from 2021 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 192346071

Project Description

Project B10 aims to investigate approaches for the surface functionalization of hierarchical nanoporous gold by stimulation-sensitive organic layers in order to improve existing material concepts for multifunctional hard-soft hybrids as sensor and actuator materials and to develop novel material concepts. Two types of organic coatings are used here: a conductive layer of polypyrrole and a monolayer of self-assembling organic thiols. The targeted control of the behavior of hybrid materials by electrical signals and chemical stimuli is investigated with experimental methods on the macroscale and simultaneously with atomic simulation methods. The simulations are intended to build a bridge between the experiments and the processes taking place at the atomic level.
