Project Details
Earth-life evolution on short time scales (B06*)
Subject Area
General Genetics and Functional Genome Biology
Term
from 2020 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268236062
We will complement population genetic data from several plant and beetle species with climate records from the Atacama and Namib deserts, to investigate the inter-dependence of short-term evolutionary processes and environmental conditions. We will generate genome surveys of about 1,500 individuals in total, collected at several sampling sites in both deserts. Using both established methods and new models we will reconstruct population size histories, determine migration patterns, examine parallel or convergent evolutionary trends and search for genotypes that may have contributed to the adaptation to hyper-arid environments.
