Precision control of single or few impurities in a fermionic bath (A07)

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 277625399

Project Description

Defects in solids account for some of their most interesting properties, many of which are not yet entirely understood. In this project, we employ a two-dimensional Fermi gas formed by ultracold mercury atoms. Individual impurity atoms are doped into this bath, and interact with one another via the bath. Setting the properties of the bath then allows us to control the interaction between the impurities. Various detection methods are investigated to probe the interactions.
