Project Details
Fabrication of complex shell elements through robotically depositing concrete layers on multicurved carbon reinforcement structures (D01)
Subject Area
Construction Material Sciences, Chemistry, Building Physics
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 417002380
The project focuses on developing new robotic manufacturing technologies for modular shell components. We will start with single-curved shells containing one layer of textile, then progress to complex curved shells with two layers of textile, and eventually deal with interpenetrating shells with multiple curvatures and complicated spatial load-bearing effects. Some of these shell structures will be augmented with functional inlays and finished with a flat outer skin. While the general shape is provided by the textile, concrete will be applied in a fully automatic manner. The primary technique involves extrusion-based material deposition (printing onto and into carbon reinforcement structures).
