Project Details
Biology inspired modeling of manufacturing processes (A02)
Subject Area
Applied Mechanics, Statics and Dynamics
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 417002380
The focus of the project is on the adoption of biological principles to production processes of carbon-reinforced concrete (CRC). The core goal is the development of a simulation framework for manufacturing of CRC elements, considering folding of early-age concrete components, as well as swelling and shrinking features during the hydration process. The project aim is to support the development of novel manufacturing processes, which use greenfolding and chemical pre-stressing, by the prediction of mechanical properties and, thus, the optimisation of production parameters and reinforcement topology. Starting points are derived from biological examples like ladybud-wing folding/unfolding of the ladybug, and leave growing and unfolding in a bud.
