Brumme’s project will study the electronic, optical, and transport properties of 2DMs and heterostructures under the influence of strain fields using DFT-based methods. He will focus on the influence of strain on mono-and multilayer systems. In multilayer samples, different strain states within the single layers can be used to break certain symmetries such as the inversion symmetry in bilayer 2H-WSe2. This will enable the switching between different transport channels and/or allow for the tuning of the valley degree of freedom. Furthermore, strain-depending vibrational properties and topological phase transitions will be addressed in this project.
