The project will record angle-resolved photoelectron spectra and photoelectron diffractograms with synchrotron radiation. The experimental data will be used to investigate structural transitions at interfaces. Specifically, one-dimensional phases, so-called nano-ribbons of semiconducting Dirac materials on metals are to be investigated first. As the project progresses, the electronic structure of the same systems will be investigated. The methods will then be transferred to other systems. To this end, preliminary work on internal interfaces from boron on silicon, functional nanoscale hybrid units, and functional groups of caffeine derivatives on metals are available. In all systems, the focus is on the structure of the transition in connection with the electronic properties. The experimental data are to be recorded at low temperatures of about 10K, since the maximum resolution of the existing beamline can be used. In addition, the experimental possibility of observing phase transitions at internal interfaces at low temperatures is offered. The second goal is the further development of photoelectron holography. The preliminary work at high kinetic electron energies shows that approximately 700 atoms can be holographically reconstructed at the correct locations. The transition to holography at low kinetic energies will be further advanced in this project.
