Within the framework of the project, a vacuum apparatus for spectroscopy with metastable probe atoms and thermal desorption spectroscopy will be procured and put into operation, thus closing existing methodological gaps. The spectroscopy with metastable probe atoms is characterized by an extremely high surface sensitivity and - in combination with the photoemission - has proven to be a very powerful method, especially in the investigation of molecular adsorbates on various surfaces in the range of low coverages. From the thermal desorption important information on the type and amount of adsorbates and their desorption energy and order can be obtained. Both methods complement each other in an ideal way and enrich the currently available methods. The requested device should provide an essential contribution to current research topics. This includes the investigation of nitride and oxide surfaces (especially group III nitrides and indium oxide as well as zinc oxide) and adsorbates, investigations of photoelectrochemical water splitting, as well as work on ionic liquids
