Project Details
Increase in purity of aluminum melts by applying the principle of pre-coat and body feed filtration using encapsulated ceramic deep-bed filters and ceramic fibers (T05#)
Subject Area
Metallurgical, Thermal and Thermomechanical Treatment of Materials
Term
from 2020 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 169148856
The project aims at the technology development and transfer of an innovative metal filter concept. The innovation bases on the application of ceramic fibers, which are used either as precoat-body feed filter aid in combination with a ceramic foam filter or as an integral functional part of a ceramic foam filter. The latter filter system can be called encapsulated filter. Concerning function and filtration mechanisms, the filter will be tested at ambient conditions with a model particle system, developed and applied in the CRC 920. The scale-up and application tests are done jointly with the industry partner Georg Herrmann Metallgießerei (GHM) GmbH, Freiberg, providing an insight how the casting process has to be modified in a production site to allow the future economic and sustainable implementation of the new technology.
