Project Details
Cathodic hydrogen uptake and permeation in passivated Ni-Nb intermetallic phases (C03)
Subject Area
Coating and Surface Technology
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 409476157
The aim of project C03 is to analyse the cathodic hydrogen uptake and permeation of passivated Ni-Nb intermetallic phases (e.g. Nb7Ni6) in comparison to Ni. For this purpose, passivation with a focus on growth, faceting and crystallinity of the oxide layer, hydrogen evolution, adsorption and absorption as well as the transport properties of hydrogen through the passive layer and intermetallic phases are investigated, taking into account the formation of defect phases. This is incorporated into a mechanistic surface corrosion model, corrosion mechanism property diagrams and corrosion mechanism maps taking into account hydrogen interaction and passivation.
