Project Details
Grain boundary phases in Ni, Ni-Cu and Ni-Au solid solution films (B06)
Subject Area
Thermodynamics and Kinetics as well as Properties of Phases and Microstructure of Materials
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 409476157
Project B06 uses atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and related spectroscopy methods to investigate the atomic structure and chemical composition of grain boundaries in pure Ni and Ni-X (X= Cu, Au, Nb) alloys. A major focus of the experiments is the detection of temperature-dependent, mechanically or chemically induced phase transformations of grain boundary defect phases. The influence of the grain boundary defect phase on the transmission of dislocations and thus on the plasticity is investigated with in-situ electron microscopy using novel, micro-additively manufactured mechanical sample carriers.
