Corrosion mechanisms and properties of Ni-Cu solid solutions (B05)

Subject Area Coating and Surface Technology
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 409476157

Project Description

The aim of project B05 is to establish a surface mechanistic corrosion model and the associated investigation into the formation of surface defect phases, e.g. protective oxide passive layers of Ni-Cu solid solutions. To this end, the growth, faceting and crystallinity of the oxide layer are considered as key factors for the stability of the passivity and the changing corrosion properties as a function of pH and temperature. These key results contribute to the development of surface defect phase diagrams and additionally lead to the generation of corrosion mechanism property diagrams and corrosion mechanism maps.
