Spin+THz-dynamics: Understanding and utilizing photon-to-magnon conversion processes (B11)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268565370

Project Description

Project B11 combines ultrafast demagnetisation processes and magnonics, two important areas of spin dynamics that have essentially been treated separately until now. By extending the combined setup to study ultrafast demagnetization and subsequent remagnetization by time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect measurements and simultaneous study of the magnon spectrum by Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy and THz excitation and detection methods, the mechanisms driving the relaxation from ultrafast demagnetization to remagnetization and possible control of these processes by resonant/non-resonant electromagnetic fields will be determined.
