Amphiphilic precision macromolecules to study effects of membrane dynamics (A11#)

Subject Area Biochemistry
Term from 2020 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 267205415

Project Description

Within this proposal, we aim at developing a platform of synthetic amphiphiles as mimetics and modula-tors of biomembranes. Through solid phase assembly of tailor-made building blocks, structurally defined synthetic amphiphiles, so called amphiphilic precision macromolecules (AMs) can be obtained that allow analyzing the effect of a large range of structural parameters such as the geometry and composition of the hydrophilic head or hydrophobic tail group on membrane dynamics. Together with the collaboration partners within the CRC, AMs will be explored to vary membrane properties e.g. by creating crowded membrane surfaces and study the effects on membrane proteins, both in vitro and in planta.
