Modelling particle aggregation and assembly into optimal structures (D04)

Subject Area Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Complex Systems, Soft and Fluid Matter, Biological Physics
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 416229255

Project Description

The objective of D04 is the modelling and optimisation of the route from particles to structures and aggregates to fundamentally understand structure formation processes by self-assembly and to guide the experimental fabrication. Our efforts will shift to the understanding of structure formation in more complex situations such as multi-component mixtures and ligandfunctionalised nanoparticles, reflecting the shift to more complex particle systems. We will continue to develop a coarse-grained particle interaction model for hybrid simulation of particles and to aid and compare to tomographic characterisation. We will predict formation pathways to particle arrangements with optimised colour and in the fabrication of porous materials, especially in processes far from equilibrium.
