Characterisation of diffusion of nanoparticles (C03)

Subject Area Technical Thermodynamics
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 416229255

Project Description

The objective of C03 is the experimental determination of the diffusion coefficient D of nanoparticle dispersions within porous stationary phase materials using photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS). We will shift the focus from unimodal to multimodal systems and from isotropic to anisotropic particles. The influence of anisotropy in terms of shape and surface properties on D will be explored using depolarised dynamic light scattering. The influence of polydispersity on D in free media and the capabilities and limitations of PCS for the characterisation of particle size and particle concentration will be assessed. Under confinement, the influence of particle-wall and particle-fluid interactions on D in mono- and bimodal systems will be studied.
