The objective of this project is to experimentally prove the feasibility of a proposed device concept of a monolithic, semiconductor-based wavemeter based on two stacked photodetectors, the first having a vertical continuous composition gradient. As model systems we will use (Mg,Zn)O and (Al,In,Ga)2O3 alloys for a system with UV response. The extension of the wavelength range shall be demonstrated by an advanced device employing two different material gradients, covering two different wavelength ranges. The experimental device characteristics shall be compared to the modelling and the modelling shall be adapted/refined accordingly. The practical limits of such monolithic wavemeter, especially in terms ofabsolute wavelength accuracy (after calibration), but also other properties such as reproducibility, stability and achievable measurement speed shall be investigated and compared to specifications of commercial interferometer-based wavemeters working in the same UVspectral range. We expect our device to deliver similar performance for a tiny fraction of size and cost.
