The flow cytometer applied for is a replacement for the existing device (year of construction 1999). This replacement is urgently required for two reasons: (i) The existing equipment no longer meets the requirements in terms of quality and quantity. The appointment of Prof. Anja Bosserhoff to the Institute of Biochemistry (Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine) led to the need for new analytical methods. In other working groups as well, the analytical methods have changed significantly in terms of quality and quantity. As a result, not only the utilization of the existing instrument, but also the requirements for the performance and possibilities of the instrument have considerably increased. (ii) The existing, old device and the software used have serious deficiencies; the repair is not in an adequate cost-benefit ratio or is not possible at all. For example, no current security updates are provided for the required operating system; therefore, a connection to the network is not possible and the analyses can only be performed on the computer installed on the device. In combination with the increasing utilization as well as long and regular maintenance and downtimes, which are due to the age of the device, this leads to considerable delays of the analyses. The acquisition of a new, modern flow cytometer is intended to ensure the increased need for measurement times and the urgently needed expansion of the range of methods and measurements.
