Project Details
Between Tradition and Triumph. Christian Poetics of Ekphrasis (C01)
Subject Area
Greek and Latin Philology
Term
since 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 405662736
In the second funding phase, project C01 will investigate Christian poetics of ekphrasis on the basis of epigrams and more extensive poems of Eastern Roman Byzantine Late Antiquity. Christian religion plays an important role as a dynamic heterological component for the interpretation of these ekphrastic poems. The re-semanticisation of pre-Christian artifacts as well as the ekphrastic poetization of a priori Christian artifacts will be analysed and evaluated with regard to a specifically Christian praxeology and aesthetics via established and new figures of aesthetic self-reflection.
