Ultrafast nonlinear optics of nanolayers (B03)

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term since 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 398816777

Project Description

Project B3 will continue to utilize atomic layer deposition (ALD) to create heterostructures consisting of metallic, semiconductor and dielectric coatings, and heterostructures down to atomic scale. These structures will be investigated by structural and optical methods to systematically study the impact of their chemistry and structure on their nonlinear optical properties. Building on the successful results in the first funding phase, the focus will move towards novel materials with a larger optical nonlinearity in the VIS-IR spectral range, such as TiN quantum-well heterostructures, non-centrosymmetric crystalline ultrathin films, and ABC/ABCD-type heterostructures. Additionally, 3-4 component heterostructures to break the symmetry of the material and enable an artificial 2 will be in the focus of investigation. Finally, these materials will be integrated in more complex 3D structures to generate a resonant enhancement and guided waves.
