Project A4 will continue to model the optical response of hybrid systems consisting of molecules absorbed on or attached to metallic and/or plasmonic surfaces. Building on the successes in the development and application of theoretical and computational protocols in the first funding phase, these approaches will be extended towards the description of dynamics and plasmon-enhanced nonlinear spectroscopic observables. The systems of interest therefore include single molecules near or attached to plasmonic structures, e.g., nanoparticles or tips, thereby predominantly supporting experiments performed in area C.
