Project Details
Role of uncertainty in cold front microphysical processes and organization (B08)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
from 2019 to 2024

Diabatic heating and cooling through cloud microphysical processes is a driver of uncertainty not only for the dynamics of the cloud and precipitation systems themselves, but also for the larger scale circulation. In this project, we will address this uncertainty for cold fronts in extratropical cyclones and the related high-impact weather (precipitation and gusts). Dedicated ICON simulations including systematic and stochastic perturba-tions of microphysical parameters will be analyzed with the help of statistical emulators.
