The goal of the project is to explore excitonic physics in a hybrid inorganic-organic system (HIOS) composed of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) monolayers with a low-density molecular submonolayer deposited onto it. We will use the HIOS to i) probe trapping of TMDC excitons by localized molecule-induced electric and magnetic fields and ii) reveal dark excitons in TMDCs. We expect to develop a comprehensive understanding of interactions between individual donor, acceptor, dipolar, and magnetic molecules on one hand, and neutral, charged, defect-bound TMDC excitons on the other hand. Among potential applications of the HIOS studied here are electrically and chemically-tunable single photon emitters, highly sensitive molecule sensors, and photodetectors.
