The objective of the subproject is to increase the versatility of the semi-tubular self-piercing riveting process by combining a linear and a tumbling process kinematic, as well as the targeted adjustment of the joint formation by means of increased material flow control. The process combination is fundamentally investigated and a detailed analysis and evaluation of the prevailing cause-effect relationships is conducted. The findings are applied in the development of an adaptive process and the identification of dependencies of joint-specific target variables.
