Project Details
Learning and Explaining Dimensionality Reduction through Visualization (A08)
Subject Area
Image and Language Processing, Computer Graphics and Visualisation, Human Computer Interaction, Ubiquitous and Wearable Computing
Term
since 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 251654672
Our goal is to design and evaluate novel visualization methods that foster better explainability of dimensionality reduction (DR) models. To do so, we will investigate visual layout enrichments that encode uncertainties and errors, but also new combinations of interpretable linear DR methods with more powerful but less interpretable non-linear methods. Beyond classical high-dimensional data, we will also expand our methods to temporal and immersive data, and evaluate them both in the lab and with students in the field.
