Project Details
Adaptation mechanisms of actinomycetes to the production of a variety of antibiotics (B05)
Subject Area
Medical Microbiology and Mycology, Hygiene, Molecular Infection Biology
Term
from 2019 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 398967434
We will study synergistic effects and the coevolution of antibiotics produced by the same organisms. Since the most gifted natural product producers encode biosynthetic gene clusters for multiple antibiotic compounds within their genome, we plan to analyze how the cell adapts to the production of multiple antibiotics, especially considering synergistic effects of antibiotics with similar targets. Using the glycopeptide antibiotics and their producers as a model system, we will look at the possible coevolution of these with other antibiotics, study genomic adaptations and analyze specific pathways both in silico and in vivo.
