Project Details
Micro Waterjet Cutting System
Subject Area
Mechanics and Constructive Mechanical Engineering
Term
Funded in 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 424796249
In the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, certain cutting tasks cannot or only inadequately be realized at present. The aim of purchasing the micro waterjet cutting system applied for is to expand the processing possibilities to be able to produce filigree workpieces with reproducible quality in terms of dimensions, surface roughness and geometrical tolerances. In addition, the participating institutes can also open new research areas. An example of this is the possibility of generating specific grooves and surface structures by providing high positioning precision in combination with a nozzle diameter of 0.3 mm , in order to generate specific knowledge regarding the damage behaviour of components. Furthermore, a systematic removal of material from plastics is to be investigated as well. With the micro waterjet system, workpieces are also processed without the introduction of thermal effects. Which prevents the influence of the peripheral zone. The option of pure water jetting allows further processing of materials such as foams opening up new fields of research.
