Enhanced macromolecule translocation across the intestinal mucosal barrier was described during the early postnatal period before it ceases at what has been termed gut closure. In project B01 we analyse the structural and functional mechanisms that determine macromolecular translocation across the neonatal intestinal barrier, regulatory mechanisms and the influence of translocated microbial stimuli on early life priming of hepatic immune cells.
