The portal vein is an essential compartment of the gut-liver axis and the molecular composition of portal vein blood can provide new insights into gut-liver crosstalk. Project A04 studies biomarkers and potential novel mediators of a pathological gut-liver crosstalk by analysing portal vein blood from patients with portal hypertension using mass spectrometry and molecular studies. Also, A04 studies blood biomarkers, molecular radiologic imaging markers and a predictive model for partial liver regeneration after portal vein embolisation in patients. Combined, this will reveal molecular signatures underlying pathological gut-liver crosstalk and liver regeneration.
