The exact role of microbiota and toll-like-receptor (TLR)-signalling in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is not well defined. In the project we will evaluate how signals triggered by the intestinal microbiota modulate the development of cholangiocarcinoma in a genetic murine tumour model. Moreover, we will examine the role of gut microbiota in the recurrence of iCCA as a proof-of principle for adjuvant treatment strategies. Finally, the translation of findings from the murine models into human patients will achieved by using specimen from an interventional clinical trial (ARROW-Trial) on selective microbiome-targeted modifications in liver tumour patients.
