From a multi-perspective position, the priority programme "The digital image" aims to thematise the central role of the image in the complex process of digitisation of knowledge in theory and practice in bringing together exemplary projects. A critical thematization and reflection of this dimension is intended as a profound epistemological upheaval. In our opinion, this can only take place in a decidedly transdisciplinary exchange and with special involvement of the information sciences. Of central importance for the functioning of the priority programme in its entirety going beyond the individual projects is the coordinator position, which is to be filled by an art historian with a doctorate in art history or a representative from a contiguous field. Ideally, this personality sees his or her professional future in the field of science management. The task is also challenging because the priority program has to combine different subjects with their partly disparate research cultures. It will be addressed primarily through a series of meetings and conferences. Emphasis is placed on the promotion of young talent and gender equality measures. In line with the orientation of the priority program, the Internet is to be used above all for organizing, internal and external communication and presentation of the results of the project, in particular with joint electronical discussion and publication platforms.
