Project Details
Processes with thermo-mechanical impact – finishing operations with geometrically defined cutting edge ((1) F08)
Subject Area
Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Term
from 2019 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 223500200
The objective of the sub-project is to set up a Process Signature for finishing operations with geometrically defined cutting edge and utilize it to solve the so called inverse problem in manufacturing. The Process Signature components are exemplary developed for milling hardened workpieces. The mechanisms essential for the formation of mechanical and thermal internal material loads at the single cutting edge and due to the successive engagement of cutting edges have to be fully identified and systematically investigated regarding their effect on the resulting material modifications. Extensive chip formation simulations are planned for the spatially and time-resolved evaluation of internal material loads during milling. The determination of relevant material modifications shall primarily be achieved experimentally.
