Project Details
Organ-specific specialization of angiocrine signaling (A01)
Subject Area
Cardiology, Angiology
Term
since 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 394046768
The research program of project A01 focusses on the functional modulation of bone-resorbing osteoclasts by blood vessels in the skeletal system. Supported by preliminary results in genetically engineered mice, the role of sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1PR1) in endothelial cells and the downstream release of Endothelin-1 in bone homeostasis will be studied. As bone loss is associated with aging and numerous disease conditions in humans, most prominently osteoporosis, the work will provide insight into clinically relevant, but mechanistically poorly understood functions of the bone vasculature.
