Experimental investigation of the interaction between scalar transport and turbulence close to walls (A06)

Subject Area Fluid Mechanics
Term since 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 237267381

Project Description

The aim of this subproject is to investigate the momentum, heat and mass transfer of a gaseous, turbulent shear layer when it impinges on an actively flowed-through wall. The permeable wall, which is actively flowed through at very low exit velocities, is intended to mimic the outgassing and pyrolysis processes during fires of polymer surfaces in analogy to the Stefan flow. The measurement data obtained will be used to better understand the exchange processes near the wall and will serve as reference data for the validation of mathematical models and numerical simulations.
