Open Access Publishing 2019/2020 / Ruhr-Universität Bochum

Term from 2018 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 413994201

The open access fund of Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) has been available since January 1st, 2014. Members of the university can apply for funds in order to pay for publication charges in open access journals. The funding criteria follow the DFG guidelines. Applications are processed by the library in cooperation with the university administration in a simplified procedure. The intention of the present renewal proposal is to also provide an open access fund for the publication years 2019/2020 and to adapt it to the growing amount of open access publications. RUB is aiming at a continuation of the fund and of all other open access activities beyond the year 2020. Permanent and reliable structures for financing open access publications will be established at the university as required by the DFG. The overriding project goal is to permanently establish open access as an alternative publication model at RUB and to contribute to a transformation of publishing from the subscription to the open access model.RUB has taken a strategic position concerning open access. On March 6th, 2013, the rector, Professor Weiler, signed the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities from 2003. The university has passed an Open Access Resolution of RUB, in which it recommends its researchers to publish in open access journals (the golden way) and to additionally make available already published articles on a document repository, if legally possible (the green way). The university has appointed an open access representative, who is the person in charge of all questions concerning open access.RUB continues to consolidate and expand its open access activities and services: support for open access publishing in an institutional repository, the implementation of OpenAire (Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe), as well as publishing services for open access articles and monographs with the software Open Journal Systems (OJS) and Open Monograph Press (OMP). These services are provided by Bochum University Library.
