Structured training programs to promote careers for clinician scientists have become increasingly important in recent years. By establishing the Clinician Scientist Program in Evolutionary Medicine (CSEM), our central goal is to recruit clinician scientists undergoing their specialist training and offer protected time for clinical research within the field of evolutionary medicine. Embedded in the internationally recognized Kiel research community, including expertise in inflammation, oncology, neuroscience, microbiome, genetics and evolution, clinician scientists in the CSEM program translate concepts of evolutionary biology into clinical research. In this proposal, we apply to continue our successfully established program into its second funding period.
