Project Description

Many fundamental questions in the design and the analysis of symmetric ciphers are still open. In this project, we plan to tackle some of those questions. In particular, we aim for finding new vectorial Boolean functions (aka S-boxes) with both exceptional cryptographic and exceptional implementation properties. While large parts of our project is of theoretical nature, we expect that our results significantly influence the design of symmetric primitives in the future. The main point of consideration is self equivalence as the unifying property of all cryptographically strong S-boxes.
