Scale-consistent coupling of land surface and atmospheric models (C04)

Subject Area Atmospheric Science
Term from 2007 to 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 15232683

Project Description

We focus on scale aspects of the coupling of water, heat, and CO2 exchange fluxes between soil, vegetation and atmosphere resulting from land surface heterogeneity. The impact of the land surface heterogeneity on the near-surface atmospheric state variables - which drive the mutual - exchange fluxes ¿ is parameterized in TerrSysMP by an extended mosaic approach based on genetic programming. Vegetation is introduced into TerrSysMP as a layered medium in the atmospheric module in order to better capture the vertically distributed exchange processes. In a new component a scale-adaptive parameterization for boundary-layer clouds will be developed.
