Low valent lead hydrides: synthesis and reactivityLead hydride chemistry is much less developed in comparison to hydride chemistry of silicon, germanium and tin. P.P. Power postulated a low valent organo lead hydride as an intermediate in the formation of a diplumbyne. We reported recently the synthesis and characterization of the first low valent organolead hydride. In this project we want to develop the chemistry of low valent lead hydrides. In order to explore the influence of the steric bulkiness of the organic substituent on the stability and reactivity of lead hydrides we aim on synthesizing low valent lead hydrides with varying steric protection. Besides nucleophilic hydride substitution starting with the respective organo lead halides we also want to use the reductive elimination of hydrogen as a synthetic pathway. Therefore we will develop a preparative route for organo lead trihydrides. The chemistry of the low valent lead hydrides will be investigated in reactions with unsaturated molecules like alkenes, alkynes or isonitriles. Furthermore the coordination chemistry of lead hydrides is explored. Finally we will study the deprotonation and protonation of the low valent lead hydrides.
