Functional role of meprin β in Alzheimer’s disease (A15*)

Subject Area Biochemistry
Term from 2018 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 125440785

Project Description

The project analyzes the involvement of meprin β in the amyloidogenic pathway. Meprin β generates N-terminally truncated Aβ peptides in vitro. The physiologic function of meprin β in neurons, astrocytes and microglia cells with regard to Aβ peptide generation in vivo will be addressed. Using cell-specific meprin β-overexpressing mice, it will be analyzed how the proteolytic processing of APP is orchestrated by meprin β and BACE1 and the competitive α-secretase ADAM10, and whether meprin β is involved in the onset and progression of Alzheimer's disease.
