Inflammatory Activity and Targeting of the Extracellular Matrix in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (B06)

Inflammatory bowel diseases are chronic diseases and complications accompanying intestinal inflammation have been associated with a disturbed balance in production and degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM). Project B06 elucidates whether an altered composition and accumulation of ECM drives intestinal inflammation and chronicity. For this, very small superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (VSOP) will be applied allowing for early discrimination of inflamed and non-inflamed tissues.
