Project Details
Development of a corrosion-inert steel for automotive applications in the alloying system Fe-Cr-Mn-N-Cu (T05#)
Subject Area
Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Term
from 2018 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 29898171
The impact of the alloying elements Cr, Mn, N and Cu on industrial processibility and mechanical properties is analyzed, using methods from the project "steel – ab initio". Alongside thermodynamic simulations, experiments will be conducted at the RWTH Aachen University. Those experiments include hot-forming tests, quasistatic and dynamic tensile tests, Nakajima-tests and metallographic analysis. The industry partner Outokumpu Nirosta GmbH analyzes the corrosion resistance of specific alloys and validates the laboratory experiments by employing their pilot continuous casting plant.
