The objective of the project are scientific works to the preparation and investigation of lignin-based polymers as a precursor for the carbon fibre production. Besides, modified technical lignins and, on the other hand, model substances which are synthesised from lignin compounds will be examined. Technical lignin often shows a wide molecular mass contribution, as well as low reactivities which can be used for an interlinking in the fibre production, which results in non homogenous fibers. Narrower molecular mass contribution should be received by a fractionation of lignins. New reactive centres should be inserted by means of chemical and enzymatical oxygen modification. Impurities like polysaccharides are another important problem. These should be reduced by an enzymatically treatment with cellulases and hemi cellulases. In parallel model substances from typical lignin compounds will be polymerized. All of these lignins will tested for thermo-plastically preparation of lignin fibers.
